The study of the Bible in its historical context - with a focus on the archaeology, history, geography, customs , culture, and even the languages of the ancient Middle East. WE ask what did they understand THEN - the original intent of the Lord - so that we can expand and enrich our understanding NOW and thus become true disciples of Adonai Yeshua as in John 8:31-32.

SHAVUOT - EPISODE 1
So few Christians really understand that there is a God ordained connection between Passover and Pentecost, between פֶּסַח Paysak and שָׁבוּעוֹת Shavuot. So few churches today even celebrate Pentecost. We have lost so much, we have become so disconnected from our roots, שׁוֹרָשִׁים SHORASHEEM.
One connection between Passover and Pentecost is "geographical." Passover is the time of the barley harvest. Pentecost is the time of the wheat harvest. Two harvests and both times the Torah calls them times of the First Fruits. Interesting. Paul calls Jesus the FIRST FRUITS. Is there something Paul understands that we don't. You bet. And there is so much more.
God commands a COUNTDOWN starting, in Jesus' day, on the Sunday after Passover (Resurrection Sunday!). That was day 1 and the count is to continue for 7 Sabbath weeks - 49 days. The 50th day God commands in His Torah is the feast of Pentecost (which means 50) or שָׁבוּעוֹת Shavuot meaning weeks. God is telling us there is some awesome connection between Passover and Pentecost so much so that we are to count each day till Pentecost.
In the past religious Jews started using Psalm 67 as they did the countdown. Many still do it today. Why? In Hebrew Psalm 67 has 49 words. ON top of that Psalm 67 has only 7 verses like the 7 weeks between the start of the Omer count and Pentecost or Shavuot. You can see this in the picture below. (Note - you'll see perhaps a hyphen used in the text. That does not mean one word but actually two in the original Hebrew which never used hyphens). So each day the Jewish people say a blessing to the Lord, state what day of the count it is, and recite out loud Psalm 67.
In this lesson I make the case that this is something we Christians should be doing. Why? Wait till you hear the lesson. Psalm 67 seems to have been inspired by the Lord to His ELECT, Israel, and now to us. The psalm used between Passover and Pentecost is connected to Jesus in amazing and surprising ways. It's all about Jesus and it always has been. We should do the countdown and look to the awesome feast of Pentecost. All churches should now, during the countdown, teach about Pentecost and Passover, the 1st harvest and the 2nd harvest, the 1st blessing and the 2nd blessing, the giving of the Laws of the Lord and the giving of that which completes the Law, and the coming of the Teaching of the Lord (Torah) and the coming of the Teacher, רוח הקודש, RUACH HAKODESH, the Holy Spirit. For more on all this check out these links that can be found after the picture of Psalm 67 below.

THE STORY OF JOSEPH - lesson 15
THE CUPS OF THE SAVIORS
Joseph - the prototype of Jesus
This lesson once again delves into the indisputable fact that God set it up that Joseph of the "many colored coat" would be a paradigm, a model, a prototype of Jesus. What is fascinating is that this fact, supported again and again by scripture, would not have been understood until after Jesus was resurrected and had ascended to the Father. To see these connections between Joseph and Jesus, Jesus' life, actions, miracles, preaching, death, resurrection, and ascension need to be clearly understood first. It's as if the Lord did this for us today and for all Jewish people as well. It is as if the Lord set this up so that religious Jews non-Christians would see these connections that are God designed and inspired to help them see Jesus as the Messiah and the coming one who will sit on David's throne and bring "taykkoon olam" (תִּיקּוּן עוֹלָם - repairing the world).
So, one event in the saga of Joseph was when Joseph hid his silver cup in the sack of Benjamin. Joseph did this on purpose. He seems to be testing his brothers to see if they were truly repentant and had changed. So, in the saga of Joseph we find this famous event of the cup. Is this perhaps also a paradigm of Jesus and events in Jesus' life? Let's study and see what might be possible.
In this podcast I mentioned I'd provide three valuable links to study the amazing connections between Joseph and Jesus. The first is a short video that is a great introduction to this topic. Here's the link ...
The second resource is an article at the excellent website "Hebrew4Christians." The article goes deeper into the connections between Joseph and Jesus providing over 60 indisputable connections solidly based upon scripture and not opinion or speculation. Here's link to the article ...
https://hebrew4christians.com/Articles/Mashiach_ben_Yosef/mashiach_ben_yosef.html
A third resource you must have access to is a scholarly paper written by my graduate studies advisor, Dr. Ron Mosely. In his paper Dr. Mosely discusses Joseph as a prototype of the the suffering Messiah just like David is a prototype of the conquering Messiah - https://www.academia.edu/3796976/Twice_Rejected_Mashiach_Ben_Joseph
The final link is to Netivyah (The Way of the Lord) ministries in Jerusalem. This is a Messianic Jewish ministry founded by Joseph Shulam, an amazing Jewish scholar who helps us reconnect to our Jewish roots of our faith. This link is to a book written by one of their resident scholars, Elhanan ben Avraham, "Moshiach ben Yosef (Messiah the Son Of Joseph)". I highly recommend you get this book and all the books you can buy from this ministry - https://netivyah.org/product/mashiach-ben-yoseph/
In this podcast I mentioned that Bible study is a requirement for us as true followers of Jesus. Matter of fact there is a renowned Messianic Gentile scholar, Dwight Pryor, who suggests that a church must provide Bible study and classes in order to obey Jesus to make disciples. A disciple in Jesus' day is one who follows a rabbi and wants more than anything else to be just like the rabbi; a disciple wants to live a life so that they are a reflection of their rabbi. Here's a link to an excellent article on what a disciple was in the 1st century by Ray Vander Laan - https://www.thattheworldmayknow.com/rabbi-and-talmidim
As one studies what it really means to be a disciple of our rabbi, our Lord and Savior, our Yeshua, we find that as our "rabbi" was sent to teach so too His disciples are called to be sent by Him to teach. But, to teach means we need to learn and thus we need to do Bible study. That's for all believers in the church and just a select few.
What is interesting, for those of us focused on the Jewish roots of our faith and our Hebrew heritage, is that the study of the Bible in Jesus' day was considered the highest form of worship! Not prayer. Not speaking in tongues. Not singing and music. No. None of these. The study of God's word by the young and the old in Jesus' day was considered at the top of the list for true followers of the Lord. Below are two links to two excellent articles discussing this. The first is written by Dwight Pryor - a highly credible and well known Gentile Messianic Christian Bible scholar and the second is written by Professor WA Liebenberg, a Messianic Jewish scholar at the Hebraic Roots Teaching Institute in Pretoria South Africa. These are a must read to understand that to be true disciples of Adonai yeshua requires Bible study and not just Bible reading. Check them out at these links ...

Lesson 4
Walk in the Spirit
(40 & 50 & God Dwells in Us and With Us)
This is lesson 4 in this 4 part video series. If you have not watched lesson 1 parts 1 & 2 or Lesson 2 parts 1 & 2 or Lesson 3 parts 1 & 2 we urge you to do so. This lesson depends upon the content of the previous lessons. Shown below are the links for the previous lessons for your convenience.
Lesson 1 Part 1 –

Lesson 3 Part 2 -
https://lightofmenorah.podbean.com/e/truth-nugget-28-lesson-3-part-2-the-ends-of-the-earth/
In part 4 we focus on the phrase “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” We are all to be disciples of Rabbi Jesus which means we want to be like Him; to live as the image of Messiah in every aspect of our lives. And, some of us might be called to go out to the "ends of the earth" and thus become disciples who are now also apostles (in Hebrew we'd be known as the "sent out ones"). It seems that Jesus is teaching us that in order to be His disciples we can not do it on our own. It takes POWER and this POWER comes through His Spirit dwelling in us.
Another part of this lesson is the amazing numbers 40 and 50. We will see how this is all connected to that memorable Pentecost Sunday probably in 30 or 33 A.D. On top of that we will see that this connects to the coming of the Lord to dwell WITH His people at Sinai, the mountain of God. All of this will enhance and enrich and expand our Biblical understanding of the Gospel, what are Disciples, Apostles, and our walk as Jesus in the Spirit.

THE STORY OF JOSEPH - lesson 14
BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE
Joseph - the prototype of Jesus
In part one of lesson 95 we studied the Word of the Lord, the way and the truth and the life, and saw that the saga of Joseph is God's Torah, His instruction not law, for Jacob and his family then, for the 1st ones to read this saga of Joseph, the Hebrews about ready to cross the Jordan and enter God's promised land then, for the talmideem of Yeshua, the disiples of Jesus then and for us NOW, today, in the 21st century as we face unbelievable troubles and dangers and difficulties. What else is there? What else does God want us to learn from the story of Joseph?
In part 2 we continue our intense Torah study in the book of Genesis. In part 2 we begin to see a reason why, perhaps, why Jesus teaches us what the two greatest commandments of the books of Moses are. We learn of the Egyptian culture and their view of themselves as superior over all other peoples of the earth. We learn this attitude of feeling better than anyone else is a common bad characteristic of all cultures over all time. But, Jesus helps us understand two fundamental laws of Torah in Lev. 19:16 and Lev. 19:34. Jesus, the Lord, our God, helps us understand who are neighbor really is. So, ready to study? Ready to see that what Jesus taught is true in John 5:39? Ready to see how God teaches us now in the 21st century from the Torah, scripture 3400 years old?
Check out the video (link below) that introduces us to this amazing connection between Joseph and Jesus. What is so awesome is God inspired Moses to write about Joseph 3400 years ago. Little did Moses know how his writing would help us today to see how God predicted His ultimate SAVIOR OF THE WORLD from the story of Joseph as the prototype. THE STORY OF JOSEPH - lesson 13
BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE
Joseph - the prototype of Jesus
As we continue to study the saga of Joseph we see things become difficult for Jacob. He is given the choice of death by starvation or to trust Judah, his 4th born son of Leah, allow him to take Benjamin, the youngest son and only surviving son of Rachel, to Egypt and hopefully get Simon back, get food, and, most importantly, bring back Benjamin. One might say Jacob is between a rock and a hard place. In this lesson we will hear Jacob say that he falls into the hands of El Shaddai, the Almighty God.
The only Bible Jesus had and Paul was the Hebrew Scriptures (a.k.a. the Old Testament). In part 1 of lesson 95 we begin to see that this saga of Joseph and now his brothers and his dad, seems to be a way that Adonai teaches us about Himself. For many of us we know the "rest of the story" as did Jesus' talmideem (disciples) and later Paul. What this story teaches us about the Lord is so totally applicable to today. It is so totally applicable to the terrible situation Israel is in - the whole world turning against Israel and blaming them as being the terrorists and not Hamas. But, in this Torah lesson, in the saga of Joseph, we can see how Paul, a Torah scholar in hi sown right, came up with ...
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Rom 8:28)
The only "Bible" Paul had was the Hebrew Scriptures. Torah, the first five books of the Bible, were the foundational books of the Bible. It seems clear to me that Paul's writings in all his letters was Torah based or based upon the teachings of his Rabbi, Messiah Yeshua, the Jesus the Christ. So, come join us as to study how this saga of Joseph was a powerful teaching (torah) from the Lord for all Israel coming out of Egypt, all Israel in Jesus' day, all Israel today, and for us.

Truth Nuggets - 17 - Mirror of Passover: Chiasm of the Lambs
Monday Apr 22, 2024

TRUTH NUGGET #17
Jesus is the Lamb of God and the original Bible never says He is the Passover Lamb. This is clear in the ancient Greek manuscripts like Codex Sinaiticus dated to 330 A.D. We said He is the Passover Lamb. It is easy to see why but the Bible like the NASB or the KJV, the best translations from the ancient Greek and the Hebrew, state Jesus is the Passover and NOT the Passover Lamb in 1 Cor. 5:7. But, if we see Jesus as distinct from the Passover Lamb, if we see Jesus as the Lamb of God, these lambs on Passover create an amazing picture of God's redemption of His people, Israel, through Moses the first redeemer, and God's ultimate redemption of Jew and Gentile, the whole world, through Messiah Jesus the Ultimate Redeemer. Once again God has created an amazing literary structure in His Bible that creates a mirror to help us see His awesome truth. Let us now study the Mirror of Passover and see the centrality of the Cross from Genesis to Revelation.

Exodus - 36 - Exod. 12:14-28 Passover Lamb & the Lamb of God
Sunday Apr 21, 2024
Sunday Apr 21, 2024
We are still in an interlude. We started Exodus 12 and did not go directly to the 10th and last plague. Instead, before the awesome hammer of the Lord falls on Egypt and the firstborn, the Lord instructs Moses to teach Israel about Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Our focus in lesson 36 will be on Exod. 12:14-28 and we will deal with three major concepts as it relates to Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
The first concept is the command by the Lord that Israel will do a special celebration annually forever as a memorial, a celebration to remember the awesome great things God did for Israel in Egypt. The Hebrew word used for memorial is זִכְרוֹן zikrôn H2146. So the Feast of Unleavened Bread is a 7 day feast to be a remembrance of their great deliverance by the Lord out of Egypt.
What is interesting is that the TORAH deals with this concept of remembering quite a lot. God sets up so many rituals and practices used by His people to remember. Many Jewish religious men, for example, wear four tassels. This is based on the TORAH in Num. 15:37-4. It is practiced today and in Jesus’ day. One of Jesus’ tassels was touched by a woman with a bleeding disease and was instantly healed. She didn’t touch the fringe of His outer cloak but one of the four tassels on the four corners.
This command by the Lord for His men to wear the tassels is specifically for one purpose. They are to remember God’s commands, laws, and instructions to live as His people as they see the tassels. An example of God’s interest in us to remember.
The second concept is studying the phrase “cut off from Israel” or “cut off from the people.” The Hebrew word for this penalty is KARAT כָּרַת H3772. It means to be cut or severed or separated. This is a very interesting penalty that is associated with seemingly trivial matters. For example, if one goes to work on the Sabbath one is cut off from Israel. Another way to get cut off from Israel is to eat a piece of leavened bread during the feast – even if no one sees you. These seemingly trivial matters you do to receive KARAT כָּרַת also can never be forgiven. The rabbis think it is so serious that if one receives KARAT, cut off from Israel, one will not enter the World to Come or experience the resuscitation of the dead. For Christians that is like saying one will not get into heaven or ever be resurrected from the dead. So, this idea of KARAT is a big deal. One can find it over and over again in the Torah.
The last concept we will deal with is connected to the picture below.
This is a decoration my wife and I have on our table when we celebrate what we call, “The Passover Meal of the Messiah.” It is normally called Jesus’ Last Supper. You will notice it is a cross with a doorway attached – a doorway with its two doorposts and the cross beam or lintel. We recall that the lamb of the Passover is sacrificed and the blood is “painted” on the wood; it is smeared on the doorposts and lintel. God says that when He sees that those inside the house will be spared from His being poured out across Egypt. Hmmm. This seems to be directly connected to Jesus who is the Lamb of God crucified on Passover. He was on the cross for some 6 hours. The blood of the Lamb of God flowed onto the wood; His blood stained the wood of the cross. Paul writes about this.
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. (Rom 5:9)
This is so connected to the Exodus. It is so connected to the first time God saved His people from His wrath. So the cross and the doorway seem to be connected. In this lesson we will again see that Jesus’ words are true when He said that ALL SCRIPTURE testifies of Himself. Where is He in TORAH? Right in front of us.

THE STORY OF JOSEPH - lesson 12
GOD WORKS ALL THINGS TOGETHER FOR GOOD
TO BRING ABOUT HIS PURPOSES
Joseph - the prototype of Jesus
The TORAH (תּוֹרָה) - the first five books of the Bible - is often mistranslated by many as law. In Hebrew, however, we find …
The word "Torah" in Hebrew is derived from the root YERAH ירה, which in the hif'il conjugation means 'to guide' or 'to teach'. The meaning of the word is therefore "teaching", "doctrine", or "instruction"; the commonly accepted translation as "law" gives a wrong impression. (Rabinowitz, Louis; Harvey, Warren (2007). "Torah". In Berenbaum, Michael; Skolnik, Fred (eds.). Encyclopedia Judaica. Vol. 20 (2nd ed.). Detroit: Macmillan Reference. pp. 39–46)
As we continue our study of the saga of Joseph we come to Gen. 42:1-5. Jacob sons ten of his sons to Egypt to buy grain. Joseph is about to confront his brothers again after what they did to him more than a decade before. But, something is different. We begin to see God’s hand in restoring Joseph to his brothers and to his father, Jacob. We begin to see God working all things together, no matter what the circumstances, for good so as His purposes and plans are established.
But, the Lord also is telling us, teaching us, in His TORAH (תּוֹרָה) – His books of teaching and instruction – that this is a prototype of something coming, the days of the Messiah. For as Joseph is reunited with his brothers who rejected him, so too Jesus. He too will be reunified with His brothers, all of Israel. Paul got it. Paul writes that one day all Israel will be saved, all Israel will be disciples of Yeshua. So, no matter how bad things look or even if things are good, no matter. God will use all things to work together for the good, for His ultimate purposes. This is the lesson Yahvay (יהוה) our Lord is trying to get through to us in the saga of Joseph.

Sunday Apr 14, 2024
Sunday Apr 14, 2024
As we put the Bible into its historical context, we find our understanding of the first Passover is extremely limited from what is taught in traditional Sunday churches and Messianic groups. But, as we delve into the fact that the Exodus and the Passover are so affected by Egypt, its ancient culture, and pantheon of gods, the Passover takes on a deeper and more awesome meaning.
In this lesson (part 2 in this mini series on Exod. 12:1-14) we ask the question why did God wait till the 15th of the month to come and kill the first born in all Egypt? The dads of each household picked a lamb or goat less than 1 year old on the 10th of the month and kept it until the 14th. It was to be sacrificed on the evening of the 14th and after sundown, which means it is now the 15th of the month, at midnight, the Lord let His final hammer fall; the Lord executed the first born on all Egypt.
Was there something special about this night, the 15th of Nissan? Was it somehow different from other nights astronomically? Did it relate to Egypt, its gods? Once we study this we will be blown away and our understanding of the Passover we be expanded and enriched. On top of that we will see how it relates to Jesus, the Last Supper (the Passover Meal of the Messiah), His death, and resurrection. We will more see the awesome connection in that on the 15th on Nissan probably in 30 A.D. the first born and only begotten son of the Father, The Lord God, was executed. What we will learn is that it was the same in Egypt for Amun Ra, the “father” god of all the gods of Egypt.
